B 250 Lesson 1 Weekly Reflection

Disclaimer: this post is written for the 26 Sep 2015 Weekly Reflection assignment, even though it is posted on 1 Oct.

Lesson 1 centered around a narrative of three young adults trying to start a web business. We got them as far as discussing business models and comparing demand and competition for ideas.

This actually reminds me of two narrative-based textbooks I used in a manufacturing class. It was a rather new and interesting take on education tactics. I’ll be interested to see if the narrative for this class ends in the next lesson or continues.

My two favorite resources of the week were Business Models on the Web, which attempts to catalog the major types of web businesses and how they work, and the Google AdWords Keyword Planner (how-to video here), which lets you see how much people search for different keywords and how many people advertise based on those same keywords.

One additional website that could be useful is Google Trends. It also lets you see some aspects of recent search trends, but without the need for an AdWords account.
